ECPC (Ellenbrook Combined Probus Club) one of about ten such Probus clubs locally, and one of hundreds in New South Wales.
Probus grew out of Rotary. From small beginnings in the United Kingdom in 1965, it expanded to New Zealand In 1974, and to Australia in 1976. These countries are where it is strongest now. It spread to Canada in 1987, and now is in the USA, Belgium, India, South Africa and other countries: about 23 altogether. There are around 2000 Probus clubs in the UK, and probably approaching half that number in Australia.
The purpose of the Club (ECPC) is ‘to advance intellectual and cultural interests among adult persons who have retired or are semi-retired from their former occupations’.
To do this, ECPC holds ‘regular meetings and arranges activities to provide opportunities for fellowship, the development of acquaintance and social interaction’. In addition, it strives ‘to be seen as a worthwhile organisation by the local community’.
Membership of the club is ‘open to retired and semi-retired professional and business people and others from any worthy vocation who appreciate and value opportunities for social contact with others in similar circumstances.’ Membership of ECPC is intended ‘primarily for residents of Ellenbrook and surrounding suburbs and districts’.
The Club has a monthly meeting, at which there is a guest speaker, who will talk about a subject of general interest. We meet at the Woodlake Community Centre. Click for Map
